Oscar Eckenstein (1859 - 1921) The Karakorams and Kashmir

An account of Eckenstein's journey after he left Conway's expedition to K2 in 1892 having taken a dislike to Conway's old fashioned approach to climbing. Eckenstein, an engineer by profession, is credited with developing the use of the walking ice-axe and the 10-point crampon.



Andy Fanshawe Coming Through

Climbs in the Alps and a tragic winter climb on Ben Nevis are described but the book is mainly about two expeditions: to Chogolisa in the Karakoram and Menlungtse in the Himalaya.
